Older Persons Grants are paid on Tuesday, 4 August 2026, Disability Grants on Wednesday, 5 August 2026, and Children’s Grants on Thursday, 6 August 2026. A fourth date, Friday, 7 August 2026, applies only to beneficiaries flagged for a grant review or eLife Certification. The SRD R370 grant is not part of this cycle and pays in a separate batch near the end of the month. What makes August different from a normal payment month is not the calendar. It is the two deadlines sitting inside it: the review day on 7 August, and the Postbank Gold Card cut-off on 31 August. Miss either and your access to your money can stop.

Payment dates for August 2026

Older Persons Grant: Tuesday, 4 August 2026

Disability Grant: Wednesday, 5 August 2026

Children’s Grants (Child Support, Foster Child, Care Dependency): Thursday, 6 August 2026

Grant review and eLife Certification day: Friday, 7 August 2026

SRD R370 grant: end-of-month batch, no fixed date published

The fourth payment day: what eLife Certification actually is

If your payment lands on Friday, 7 August instead of your usual day, it means SASSA has flagged you for review or eLife Certification. This is not a punishment and usually does not mean you have done anything wrong. eLife Certification is the digital replacement for the old life certificate, introduced in March 2026. It confirms you are still alive and eligible, using a facial scan and biometric checks that are matched against Home Affairs records. The most common reason for being flagged is simply time, since the law requires SASSA to reconfirm eligibility at regular intervals, and the agency runs extra checks during payment cycles.

You receive an SMS in advance, so keeping your cell number current with SASSA is essential. You can complete the process yourself on the SASSA online self-service portal if you have a phone with a working camera and a stable connection, which saves you a trip to the office. If you cannot complete it online, you must visit your nearest SASSA branch. Either way, do not ignore the notification. SASSA treats non-response as non-compliance, and your grant can be suspended the following month.

The 31 August deadline: swap your Gold Card before it stops working

The second deadline affects anyone still using an old SASSA Gold Card. Postbank has confirmed that Gold Cards stop working permanently on 31 August 2026, and there will be no extension and no grace period. Any Gold Card still active on 1 September is blocked. Your grant itself is safe, since the money is paid into your account regardless of the card, but you will not be able to withdraw it until you collect the new Postbank Black Card.

The swap is free and quick. Dial 120355# to find your nearest replacement site, or use any participating Shoprite, Checkers, Usave, Pick n Pay, Boxer or SPAR. Take your green ID book or smart ID card. You can collect in any province, no matter where your grant was approved, and you can set your PIN at a Postbank ATM or branch afterwards. If age or disability stops you from travelling, a registered procurator can collect on your behalf with the correct authorisation. Do not leave this to the last week, because queues will build sharply as the deadline nears.

A quick word on the SRD R370 grant

The SRD grant does not follow the early-month schedule. It pays in a separate batch in the final week of August, with your exact date depending on your batch and payment method. Check your status at https://sassa-status.web.za/ before you travel anywhere, and only move once it shows approved with a payment date. The grant remains R370 per month and runs until 31 March 2027.

Before you head out this month

Money stays safely in your account once it is paid, so there is no need to withdraw everything on your date, and waiting a day or two helps you skip the worst queues. Finally, ignore any message promising a bonus, a double payment or an extra August allowance. Treat it as a scam unless SASSA confirms it through an official channel.

The SASSA August 2026 payment dates are confirmed, and the permanent grants pay early in the month over three staggered days.
